On the way up

The new Nissan Qashqai to continue the success story of the first generation and the Compact SUV-Class stir. in MegacomparisonSTEST it competes against the assembled competition with 130 to 150 hp diesel

FORD KUGA 2.0 TDCi 4x4

Since almost exactly one year, Ford takes the second generation of the Kuga in unchanged booming segment of the compact SUV - with quite successfully. For the sleekly drawn Cologne combines diverse talents. So, this comfortable cruising prepares thanks to its balanced chassis tuning as much fun as the ambitious cornering.

For dynamic aspirations of the Kuga only average performance do not quite fit, however. It can accelerate from zero to 100 km / h takes 10.5 seconds - and can thus only the Mitsubishi ASX (10.8 s) leave behind. Only the Renault Koleos (182 km / h) and the Hyundai ix35 (181 km / h) are slower - in terms of top speed for the Ford even at 188 km / h circuit. And consumption, the Kuga (100km 6,8 l /) and the associated manageable range can not settle because of its relative only average diesel consumption.

On the plus side, however, is the high level of safety from Cologne. Thus, the Kuga, for example, 35.0 meters the best braking distance on cold, in warm delay system, the kinetic energy from 100 km / h after just 35.4 meters, is completely eliminated. In addition, the unique in the competitive environment safety features come as a proximity control (980 euros from equipment Titanium) or an Emergency Assistant (350 euros). Also available, which to a stop automatically performs up to 15 km at speeds / h to prevent rear-end collisions on the brakes for an emergency brake assist him (350 euros).

With 29,400 euros of the Kuga in the base price remains under the 30,000-euro mark, he then rolls but still only a manageable standard equipment, e.g. does not include alloy wheels. The 18-inch tires on the test car is available only from the higher level of equipment Titanium (2100 euros). In the multimedia facilities of Ford's not quite at the level of the time. For this he has with the electrically operated tailgate (370 euros and 575 euros for non-touch opening) a very special comfort detail that you will not find at his opponent. Fourth place overall for the Kuga.

With a length of 4.57 meters, a width of 1.82 and a height of 1.69 meters, the Honda CR-V is one of the more imposing phenomena in the segment of compact SUV. Its outer size of the Japanese white fortunately in a lavishly dimensioned space for passengers and luggage convert coins. In both rows of seats freedom of movement is sufficient in all directions is available, only the broad center tunnel restricts leg room for the driver and front passenger something.

To take all the travelers in the Honda on a large and comfortable upholstered seats. The trunk is at normal seat con fi gure 589 liters, only the Hyundai offers 591 liters more minimal. With rear seat folded down at the Honda stand 1,669 liters available - so that the CR-V only has the space miracle Skoda Yeti give (1,760 liters) beaten.

Among the good qualities of the Honda as a traveling coach be the Class-standard ride comfort contributes. Road bumps all kinds holds the CR-V largely away from the occupants. The wellbeing fi nd on board is, however, marred somewhat by the rather high noise level. In particular, the wind and tire noise are quite clearly audible.

2.2-liter displacement, the four-cylinder diesel Honda CR-V on - and is, together with the self-ignition of the Mazda CX-5, the largest aggregate in the field. The 150 hp engine makes the Honda in the performance to a of the leading test candidates.

For example, the Honda has the standard sprint to Highway pace with 9.2 seconds in second place behind the Mazda (8.8 s). In the elasticity measurement of the CR-V is also second, wafer-thin beaten by the Nissan Qashqai. However, the maximum speed of the Honda falls 190 km / h from just average.

With a consumption of 6.5 liters per 100 km, the CR-V is one for the fuel-efficient members of its class. What one if its size may not credit the Honda at first glance, its dynamic driving talents. This he points next to the second-fastest time on the handling course inter alia, the fourth-best performance on the slalom course and good braking performance (cold: 35.3 meters, warm: 35.1 meters).

In the final bill of the CR-V finally lands on the third rank. Not least thanks to the slightly cheaper price at the same time more extensive equipment, it can keep the Ford Kuga just behind.

HYUNDAI ix35 2.0 CRDi 4WD

The Hyundai ix35 2.0 CRDi 4WD is one of the more favorable candidate in the test. Although his starting price of 29,590 euros does not seem very underestimated, but you can call its standard equipment to be quite generous. For example, comfort and convenience features like a Bluetooth hands-free and automatic air conditioning also on board as a light and rain sensor.

From fi nancial point of view are also interesting is the extensive warranty from Hyundai. In addition to five-year warranty on the technique, the Koreans also offer than only five years on the paint. The 2.0-liter diesel with the ix35 is 136 hp the second weakest unit under test.

In terms of performance but the Hyundai is left only with the maximum speed of 181 km / h significantly behind the majority of the test field. His time of 10.2 seconds for the sprint from zero to 100 km / h, however, is a good average. the ix35 at pulling power placed again in the front third - so it remains, for example, as one of only three candidates at the intermediate sprint from 60 to 100 km / h in fifth gear less than nine seconds. At 7.2 liters per 100 kilometers but the Hyundai consumed together with the Subaru most.

Also in the driving dynamics disciplines of ix35 can keep up with the competition: On the handling course he placed with 1.55,1 seconds in sixth place - just a tenth of a second behind the VW Tiguan. The rather callous steering spoil the fun sporting cornering but something. Disappointing are also the braking distance of 38 meters (cold) and 37 meters (warm).

Of its external dimensions forth the Hyundai ix35 builds comparatively compact. Of space inside but there is no shortage. Driver and front passenger and rear passengers enjoy sufficient freedom of movement. With 591 liters of Hyundai even offers the largest luggage space - which, however, widens by folding down the rear seat back to "only" 1,436 liters. Only the much smaller Mitsubishi (1219 l) and Renault (1,380 l) provide less maximum load capacity.

In a strong and versatile occupied test field of the Hyundai ix35 has the seventh place in the final result. Not least because of the oncoming pricing and the chic look, the Koreans is an attractive offer, but especially the moderate braking system prevented a better result.

When looking at the price list of the Mazda CX-5 well so many Kau fi must nteressent initially swallow vigorously. After all, the Japanese call to at least 30,790 euros for the SKYACTIV-D 150 AWD. But the consideration is substantial. Especially in terms of safety features, the CX-5 exemplarily presented. Among other things, he has an emergency brake assist on board factory - offer in the test only other Ford, Honda and Nissan a technology.

The scope of supply also includes distance warning, lane departure warning, light and rain sensor. To the standard comfort-enhancing features include cruise control, automatic climate control and Bluetooth hands-free. With 503 up to 1620 liters of load capacity of the Mazda has indeed only an average sized luggage compartment that can be used but quite variable due to the standard three-piece folding rear seat.

The occupants of the Mazda enjoy comfortable space. The perceived positive sense of space is enhanced by the large window surfaces, which also contribute to the good overview of the CX-fifth

A convincing performance of the Mazda delivers in the engine section. Its 150-hp 2.2-liter diesel makes the CX-5 sprinting as only ones in under nine seconds to highway speed, 197 km / h it is after Mitsubishi (198 km / h) also the second fastest. Only in the elasticity measurement of the Mazda needs to escape unscathed, for the intermediate sprint from 80 to 120 km / h in sixth gear none of the competitors will take longer than he.

For the CX-5 compensated with the lowest consumption, only 6.4 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers flow through its injection system.

In the end, the Mazda CX-5 established in the upper half of the test field, he has to fifth just under the Ford Kuga and the third-placed Honda CR-V beaten. A better result thwart including his stopping power. Braking distance of 36.7 (cold) and 36.4 meters (warm) are considered by itself is not bad - in direct comparison but only average.

With 6,800 new registrations in 2013 in Germany, the discreetly redesigned last summer Mitsubishi ASX has a loyal fan base.

One of the main reasons for this may be its price: a 150-horsepower diesel SUV with all-wheel drive for 26,490 euro is an attractive offer. By comparison, the most expensive car in this test, the Subaru Forester, costs already 31,200 euro in the base version. And even if the ASX is not the strongest competes in this field, so it depends but a Hyundai ix35 or Renault Koleos 198 km / h according to factory specification casual off.

Nevertheless, it consumes only 6.5 liters of diesel on average. So that the ASX is one of the most fuel-efficient compact SUV in this roundup, he probably owes its low weight to one part. It also offers to the wind with its comparatively small size of 1.77 meters wide and 1.62 meters less attack surface than most of its competitors.

The downside: When loading volume, the small SUV brings up the rear with just 419 liters. The space for passengers is front still sufficient, but the back is tight. This affects the traveling comfort. Little enthusiasm on long distances also triggers the operation sound of be nailed 1.8-liter diesel.

In conjunction with significant vertical movements of the body along a bumpy road the Mitsubishi thus remains only the last place in the comfort chapter. Even if there were special points for an appealing interior design, would it not change: The cockpit of the ASX dominated dreary hard plastic and it creaks in the cockpit. Not good, the SUV rolling after the driving dynamics tests from the square. Neither the brake values are konkur-ence still capable of the times on the handling course. The steering gives little feeling in fast corners, while the ASX slides over the front wheels to the outside.

The clearest but the low purchase price in the range of optional features is precipitated. Where others now offer a City Emergency Braking, helpers for the lane change, high beam or parking assistant, the Mitsubishi buyer gets not even a separately adjustable for driver and passenger climate control - not even an extra cost. Self parking sensors that would be very helpful for a confusing SUV, there are only as an accessory from the dealer. This leaves only the tenth place in the overall standings at the end. And to have to take for Trostp fl aster the certainty of the lowest loss of value.

presented earlier this year, the sale of the new Qashqai has just begun. Visually, the Japanese developed in Europe and built flays equally powerful impression by drives up to optiona-len 19-inch wheels. And because it only gives we tested 1.6-liter diesel with all-wheel drive from the central equipment Acenta, the subject is otherwise perfectly equipped:

Autonomous emergency braking assistance, high beam and lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, Bluetooth hands-free - all standard equipment. That's a word in this (price) class. For the top equipment Tekna the Nissan Safety Shield is moreover available (650 euros), which includes a lane change and a parking assistant, among others. So much technology, with the Qashqai catapulted in the security equipment, together with the equally ultra-modern Mazda CX-5 all the way forward.

Taking the Qashqai place, you can feel that Nissan has put in developing high value on a decent quality impression. The materials used valuable aspect that surfaces in the cockpit, for example, are foamed soft in many places. Especially styled exciting but they are not. The operation of the systems succeeds mostly without problems.

Some switches are, however, poorly placed, as the keys for the ESP, the all-wheel drive and park pilots left below the steering wheel. While Nissan has quite a sense of practical details, such as the double bottom shows in the trunk. Once under way, the Qashqai is relatively tight in the street. With its large wheels, the chassis is shock dry on to the occupants. At this pithy character of the rough-sounding 1.6-liter diesel, which proves to be very lively and strong suits.

In conjunction with a short gear ratio compensates be shortcoming displacement over competitors as Mazda or Honda, perform the 2.2-liter engines in the field. At the end of the Qashqai leaves a mixed impression: weasel fl ink, but not very comfortable, technically top, but with low heights. That's enough only for sixth place.

With the Koleos Renault gives its customers the good feeling to drive a special car. It starts with the fact that there is this SUV just as special model: You can choose between the variants Paris, Bose Edition or Night & Day. Common to all special models that they have a very good multimedia features. Navigation System, numerous interfaces for external devices, Bluetooth hands-free and even the app-based online media system R-Link are at no extra charge on board.

But the latter works for free only during the first six months, after which the customer must at Renault for 69 euros purchase a yearly subscription. Even with his sympathetic rounded design and the split tailgate - practical for loading in tight parking spaces - the Koleos stand out from its competitors in this comparison test.

Less extravagant, the smooth fl ächige interior presents. The upper part of the cockpit jutting forward, the fact integrated touch screen can only be reached with long arms. Somewhat complicated, the operation of the Navis designed using a rotary push button. The circular instruments for the driver, however, are clearly marked and easy to read. Assistance systems are nowhere - aside from the available for the top version lane change assistant.

The feeling of space on board is very airy. Through pulled far down side window inmates overlook plush chairs laid out - even if the Koleos rolled once over bad roads. The ride comfort is impeccable, only short bursts penetrate relatively hard by inward. Wild cornering, however, is not the job of the great Frenchman, which is built at Samsung in South Korea. No wonder, because with 1761 kg it is in this field, the hardest.

At higher speeds, the Koleos pushes strongly shaken on all four wheels through the curve when accelerating the front tires struggle for grip. How are better shows of similar weight, but much more dynamic Honda CR-V. Thus, the Koleos achieved ninth place at the end. Individualists who like to travel with relish and with online connectivity, but that will not interfere - provided they have not too much luggage.

The just newly redesigned Skoda Yeti is already a real achiever. Already from its first comparison test, he was the winner. This time it's not different. The smart Czech leaves no wish unfulfilled. This starts with an unprecedented use of space. On relatively small base area Skoda realized not only freedom of movement but also maximum flexibility. Thus, the rear bench seat falls in three parts, and each seat can be moved or completely remove.

In addition, you can install only four seats in addition to the five-seat con fi gure. This creates then for passengers in the second row significantly more freedom of movement. The real coup, however, is that - if all seats are removed in no time - the rather modest in the normal state load volume of 405 liters expands to 1,760 liters. The fold-down passenger seat back is then only the icing on the cake that crowns the Yeti loadmaster.

But the Skoda just stands out not only that. So is his drive may not be the strongest in the test, but not weak in the chest and pleasant sparingly. But above all, the lively Yeti sets an extremely dyna-premix talent to light. No other SUV reacts such binding to steering commands such as the Czech.

It builds on the enormous grip and scurries with only moderate body roll around the handling course. With its agile nature of Yeti compensated some of its weaknesses comfort - especially in direct comparison of the VW Tiguan. Where the Group brother still completely unimpressed takes transverse joints and bumps under the wheels, shocks penetrate much stronger the Skoda into the interior before.

But that was about it with the complaints about the Yeti. He bene fi like no advantage another vehicle from the modular design of the VW Group. Sure, the perceived quality of the materials is the Tiguan one step ahead, but the processing is ranked at the same level.

The real advantage of the Czechs is the positioning of the brand. That is VW technology at a fair price. In the Testkon fi gure of the Yeti is 4635 euros cheaper than the same motorized Tiguan. And that is unlikely to change in the future.

With the Subaru Forester a real individualist travels with in this test. Even if it does not look at first glance so exactly he is the one who shows the most diverse characteristics. And this applies primarily to propel the vehicle. In contrast to the assembled competitors, all of which rely on transversely installed four-cylinder, Subaru remains true to the turbo diesel Forester its own brand philosophy and uses a longitudinally mounted boxer.

With pithy sound, but unexcited, the motor drives the amazing light Subaru ahead loose. Only the displacement larger and more powerful models from Honda and Mazda are still somewhat tangy go. the drive with an average consumption of 7.2 liters per 100 kilometers lush disappointed only at the pump.

The relatively low weight and good performance are also used in vehicle dynamics into play. The Forester, the neutral whets pleasant around the corners must be drawn only Honda and Skoda. He also convinced (hot braking distance: 34.2 m) with an excellent delay of speed 100th

But up to this point good idea is not enough to fight for in this test forward. To the Japanese lack the necessary fine-tuning. So the Subaru bought be quite agile handling with a very taut basic voting. He also shows large gaps in the safety equipment. Current assistance systems there are simply not, and bi-xenon light there until the equipment is exclusive. Nevertheless, the Subaru with 31,200 Euro base price is the most expensive SUVs in this test - which it offered quality in materials and workmanship not reflects that.

The Forester is a car for individualists who appreciate a thanks to large windows surfaces, although breezy, but not particularly large cut inside and drive strong character. Moreover, alongside Hyundai only Subaru offers a five year warranty on technology. But in the end can be the likeable Forester too many points, thus achieving only eighth place.

Actually, the VW Tiguan has a subscription to test victories since its release. No one could give him the water - dominant Wolfsburg occurs over his rival been working for almost seven years of production. The only one who makes it his territory for some time now in dispute, the Skoda Yeti is. And so in this test: With a narrow margin of Czech wins the large compact SUV comparison. Nevertheless, the Tiguan is one of the best things you can currently buy in this segment.

It offers its occupants a space that is unrivaled in this class. Only the load volume is only average. In return, can move the rear bench seat in the longitudinal direction, the back vary in inclination to adjust the loading floor (175 euros) in height and (the passenger seat standard on Sport&Style) fold it forward. Operation and processing quality are also top. Only with the safety features of the new competitors Mazda CX-5 and Nissan Qashqai running the Tiguan meanwhile from the rank.

But the parade discipline of all trades from Lower Saxony is the driving comfort. Shapely comfort seats (270 euros), which support the back of one hand and on the other hand give support without restricting movement, convincing even when standing still. Once a drive is quickly clear that the Tiguan is also considerably better insulated than its sometimes dröhnigen rivals. Chassis, wind and engine noises come from very discreet. But it is above all the ride comfort that makes the VW here for the class leader.

His suspension with adaptive dampers (1,115 euros) speaks extremely sensitive to, like bumps of sovereign and does not stumble even under heavy load. In order for the Tiguan wins the bodywork and the ride comfort chapter.

However, the excellent comfort is something at the expense of driving dynamics. The Wolfsburg focuses on maximum security. Soft, finely regulated by the ESP understeer earlier sets his boundaries as is the case for example in the bustling Skoda.

Also in the engine chapter, the Tiguan behind the models from Honda and Mazda have to classify whose units operate not only more powerful but also more economical. The narrow margin in front of the same engine Skoda VW secures only because of its larger nine-liter tank volume, which enables it a longer range.

Little close to the people to VW shows in pricing. Even the basic version of the Tiguan costs nearly 31,000 euros with all-wheel and 140-horsepower diesel engine with BlueMotion technology.

Of the Skoda Yeti blossoming into an Compact SUV Series winner. Highly variable, agile and also low he even defeated the consolidated brother Tiguan. However, the distance to the VW is quite low. The Tiguan convinced with very good workmanship, plenty of space and ride comfort that is not self-evident even in higher vehicle classes. Only in pricing the VW is less close to the people.

Good all-round properties, a pleasing sporting talent with neat comfort and a powerful engine as economical transport the Honda CR-V into third place on the podium.

Fourth place of the Ford Kuga secures. Its sophisticated manner that also allows a good amount of fun, like. But the somewhat temperamental loose drive prevents a better place. Just behind the Mazda CX-5 by one in fifth. The Japanese have a good overall package laced with great drive unit - unfortunately, to a high base price.

The new Nissan Qashqai achieved sixth place. Well equipped, but matched quite small and too tight, he can hardly set the tone. The missing also the placed behind Hyundai ix35.

The Subaru Forester in eighth place consistently goes its own way and emp fi so EHLT be individualists. This also applies to the cozy Renault Koleos in ninth place. In last place is the small, unbalanced Mitsubishi, which remains mainly because of its bad brakes remembered.
